*varúð: að mestu leyti fyrir heimspekinörda*
Það er augljós staðreynd að Martin Heidegger og Super Mario eru í raun sami maðurinn. Fyrir utan útlitið er margt annað sem leiðir mann að þessari augljósu niðurstöðu. T.d. leynist það engum manni sem les heimspeki Heideggers að hann hefur augljóslega étið yfirgengilegt magn af sveppum, fyrir svo utan hæfileika hans að geta skotið eldkúlum úr höndunum á sér. Eftir þessa uppgötvun tóku ég og kanadískur kunningi minn að okkur það verkefni að samþætta ævisögur beggja.
After numerous adventures in his eponymously-titled land, Super Mario retired from his colourful adventurism, sold his stake in the Super Mario Bros. plumbing co. and settled into a semi-retirement as a rector at the University of Freiburg, where he would use his strong italian catholicism to develop several prominent theories about the nature of being and how errors in human understanding since platonic times had lead to incorrect approaches in numerous fields from theology to technology.
Despite substantial contributions to 20th century philosophy that would come to help underpin later trends such as existentialism as postmodernism, the most lasting popular image of Mario would be his sustained support of the nazi regime under Adolph Hitler. When asked after the war to account for his positions in this regard, Mario responded, "hey-ah, after I-ah saved-ah the princess-ah from-ah Bowser-ah a-ah few-ah times-ah I got to-ah travel-ah all-ah over-ah the-ah lands-ah he-ah ruled-ah and-ah I-ah thought-ah 'maybe-ah this guy's-ah onto-ah something-ah'. So-ah when-ah Hitler-ah came-ah long-ah I-ah knew-ah I-ah had-ah found-ah my-ah new-ah Bowser-ah. Hey-ah, it's-ah me-ah Mario-ah!" Mario also pointed to Luigi's love affair with Benito Mussolini as evidence that both had been profoundly affected by their bowserian experiences and 'the myth of the strong man and national redemption.'
Mario's affair with Princess Toadstool, who was Jewish, occurred some time before Mario's involvement in National Socialism, but her friendship with Mario did not end when she moved to Heidelberg to continue her studies under Wario, Mario's evil doppelganger and arch-nemesis. Toadstool later spoke on his behalf at his denazification hearings. Wario however, spoke against him at the same hearings, suggesting he would have a detrimental influence on German students because of his powerful teaching presence. His brother Luigi spoke there as well, surprisingly echoing Warios sentiments. Many percieved this to be an act mostly motivated by jealousy, and Luigi's growing resentment towards Mario and his success. Especially after having, a few years prior, been left out of "Super Mario Sunshine" altogether. Mario remained unfazed at the betrayal of his brother, claming in an interview with 'Der Spiegel' magazine that "he-ah always-ah had it in-ah for-ah me-ah, that-ah scrawny-ah no good-ah piece of shit-ah."
Toadstool cautiously resumed their friendship after the war, despite or even because of the widespread contempt for Mario and his political sympathies. The denazification hearings resulted in Mario being forbidden to teach between 1945 and 1951. As a result of this, Mario, growing tired of the scholarly lifestyle and yearning for a life of adventure and excessive mushroom consumption, made a sensational return to Mario Land, spawning such hits as Super Mario Stadium Baseball, Mario Party 8, Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Hoops 3-on-3 and many many more.
